Standards of safety, hygiene and medical care in foreign countries may not be the same as in Canada. These differences could have serious consequences for your health, complicating your access to medical care abroad.

The Government of Canada has created a brochure entitled “A good start”, available at the following address:

Before you leave, you should find out about the health risks in the country or countries you plan to visit, your own risk of contracting a disease, and the measures you can take to prevent illness and injury. If you feel ill, postpone your departure to avoid taking the plane or boat in this condition. You are responsible for your own health, safety and accident prevention, so take the necessary steps before, during and after your stay abroad!
