Rabies vaccination

Rabies is a fatal disease caused by a Lyssavirus that is transmitted to humans through close contact with the saliva of an infected animal, most often by biting, scratching or licking.

Your risk depends on several factors: your destination, the length of your stay, where you travel, your activities and your access to medical care.

Your risk is much higher if you engage in activities associated with close contact with animals, such as cave exploration, hunting, camping, hiking or cycling.

Travelers who will be working in close contact with animals, such as veterinarians, animal control officers, wildlife workers and laboratory workers, are at high risk.
